Leather bags will last for years if you take care of them the right way. It can be difficult to spend time taking care of them if you are super busy and don’t have much free time. Fortunately, we’ve come up with our three favourite quick tips/tricks to take care of your leather bag and make them last longer! Take a look and let us know if you have any questions!
1. Handle your leather bag with clean hands!
It can be easy to forget that your leather bag can get stained very easily, especially with greasy hands. Make sure your hands are clean and dry when using your bag. Leather is durable and long-lasting, but they can remain strong only if you’ve taken care of them. Ensure that you clean your bags with a dry soft cloth and that you use a decent leather conditioner to take care of them.
2. If unused, stuff your leather bag with bubble wrap to keep its shape intact
Always keep your leather bag in an upright position. Store it in a dust-free bag or below case to prevent copious amounts of dust sticking to it. Make sure never to store them in plastic or vinyl, because these types of material don’t let moisture escape. Keep your bags stuffed with something to keep the shape intact – scarves, sweaters, or acid-free tissue paper, or a handbag will work.
3. Air out your leather bags in the sun
Moisture isn’t good for leather since it allows the growth of bacteria and mold. It’s very important to keep your bags moisture-free and completely dry. If your bag has been exposed to rain, let it air dry under the sun if possible. Your leather bag will never be water-proof, but you could totally add a layer of beeswax on it to create a small barrier from moisture.
